Dragon sculpt: painted by revenant-99 Dragon sculpt: painted by revenant-99
This is the finished painted version of my dragon sculpt.
The original was sculpted in Sculpey Firm and this is a painted resin cast of that sculpt.
Size: approximately 13" from head to tail and about 11" across the wings.
Painted with acrylics with a little gloss varnish to bring up the detail in the scales.

Thanks for looking,
Terry

Thanks a lot, much appreciated!

I am seriously impressed with your beautiful equine anatomy sculpt by the way.....the forms and details look perfect to me, so I hope it does well for you when you start selling the resin copies.

Cheers,
Terry

Thanks a lot,
The only tip I can offer is to keep practising and you will get better.....probably the key to my paint-ups is that I take my time, lay down a good solid base colour and then gradually build up the colours with transparent washes.

I'm starting out as a sculptor, can you give some advice to a rookie like me? ^^

I'd recommend getting hold of some cheap water based clay and a few very basic sculpting tools and just try making basic forms.....try starting with a human head in a fairly large scale. You can work from photos but it would be better to work from life if you can get someone to model for you.
Don't be too discouraged if you can't get things to look right from the start...it takes time to get the hang of sculpting. Just keep practising and gradually you will find your hands will get better at forming the shapes you want them to.
Good luck and have fun!

That's great, the main reason I recommended water based clay for a beginner is that it's soft and easy to work with to build up forms and shapes quickly. Some of the more expensive oil based clays used by professionals are very hard to work with and take a lot of getting used to.

Anyway, have fun and feel free to ask for advice/tips if you need to.
